Session: Lightning Talk
Lecturers are increasingly under pressure to engage students and improve attendance. This is made all the more challenging by increasing class sizes and ability ranges of students. With high workloads it is important to use limited planning time efficiently. In this lightning talk I will discuss the idea of planning efficiency and how considering this can help you decide whether or not an intervention is worth the effort. I will also share some practical strategies and tips which I have found increases engagement and attendance with minimal planning. These strategies have roots in my experience as a secondary school teacher where increasing attendance has been a priority for many years. The effect of these interventions will be illustrated with case studies and evidenced using student feedback surveys.
