There are many uses for taxation in the business and financial world, the aim with this practical approach to learning and assessment is for students to understand how the various UK taxes work, be able to calculate tax due and provide advice on how to reduce/mitigate tax wherever possible.
To provide students with workplace skills that could increase their employability after graduation, more practical applications of taxation were incorporated into the final year undergraduate taxation assessments.
Completion of VAT returns is a mandatory requirement for a vast number of businesses and is a vital part of a practising accountant’s workload. Many businesses complete the returns themselves to avoid compliance costs. Hence, for students to gain these skills in the classroom they can offer employers real world skills that could save money.
